Food Truck Eats (Event 1)
July 2nd, 2011Lets just say that today’s #FoodTruckEats was WILDLY successful. A bunch of vendors sold out of goods 2hrs into the event, leaving those who were waiting in line for that long (yes some poor souls waited that long) shit out of luck. Lines were forming before the event officially started, and it was just simply rammed to the tit full of people during the entire event.
Above is food from El Gastronomo (@elgastronomo) a Food Truck that showcases food from the Niagara region. They had my favourite today – theBuddha Belly – five spiced pork belly, steamed buns, chili jam, cucumber & corriander $3.50.
With this kind of turn out – the message is obvious – Toronto demands food trucks.
We are a great food city – but we’re not well rounded enough yet, we’re missing a few things and one of them is having proper food trucks of today’s caliber on the road. You can help by signing a petition created by El Gastronomo to get more food trucks here.
Big thanks to all the vendors that came out today (a list of them can be found here in a Toronto Life article).
Biggest thanks (and the whole city should give this guy props) to Suresh Doss (@SpotlightCity) for gettin’ this going.
Food Truck Eats #2 will be on Aug. 20th 2011.
I’ll do a proper round up by Tuesday.

Thank you for the kind words Raymond, and thanks for coming out to this event to support this idea.
The response yesterday was over the top, and no one expected there to be well over 3,000 people (all signs point to north of 3k for the entire event).
The petition will be more prominently displayed next time. This is a fully independently run event so we’ll get there. The flexibility of having 3 events and huge supporters like the Distillery District allows us to set the tone for this movement.
thanks for the plug!
